(LaPlace, La.) – February 26, 2024 – Louisiana’s River Parishes Tourist Commission (RPTC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Denise Burrell as its new Executive Director. With a distinguished career in tourism and deep-rooted connection to the region, Burrell brings a wealth of experience and passion to her new role.
Having served as Deputy Director of Operations at RPTC since February 2019, Burrell has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to promoting the cultural richness and distinctive heritage of the River Parishes. Her tenure in this pivotal position has prepared her to seamlessly transition into the role of Executive Director.
Expressing her gratitude and excitement for the opportunity, Burrell remarked, “I am honored to have this opportunity to serve the River Parishes. Our rich culture and distinctive way of life deserve to be celebrated. It is with great pride that I get to lead and organize the voices telling the stories of our unique region.”
Burrell’s ties to the community run deep, as a lifelong resident of the region and a proud alumna of East St. John High School and Southern University and A&M College. Her intimate knowledge of the area’s history, traditions, and people positions her perfectly to champion its tourism endeavors.
Elizabeth Joseph, Chairwoman of RPTC, expressed confidence in Burrell’s abilities, stating, “Denise brings a wealth of personal and leadership experience in the hospitality and tourism industries. That, coupled with her roots in the River Parishes area, made her the clear choice for the position of Executive Director.”
