We invite you to experience our region thought the beats of our music as you travel up and down the river taking in our history, the food, and the music influenced over centuries by the people along the Mighty Mississippi River in Louisiana’s River Parishes. 

Day 1 – Thursday: 

Arrive here early so you can grab lunch at Truck Farm Tavern where you’ll be surrounded by local art, literally from the walls to the ceiling! Before or after you eat, be sure to check out the restored trucks in the garage in the back. After lunch, get ready for a heart-pounding experience as you get up close and personal in our swamps on an airboat by Swamp Adventures! We told you you’d hear the music of our region, well the roar of an airboat is a sound you’ll never forget! 

After your swamp tour, head to check into your room at one of our hotels, bed and breakfasts, or RV Parks. After you unpack, take a short nap, get dressed for dinner, and put on your dancing shoes.

Dinner is at Hymel’s Seafood Restaurant in Convent where you’ll hear live zydeco music. Be ready to get brought onto the dance floor by a local or just enjoy your meal and watch as the local experts dance to the beat.

Day 2 – Friday: 

Since you’re probably still full from the night before, pop into the Donut Hole and eat as many donut holes as you can fit! (or if you’re on the go… get a “breakfast in a cup” and head off to the next adventure. If you’ve got time, sit and chat with one of the regulars slowly sipping their coffee. 

Get ready for a trip down Soul River Lane at Historic Riverlands here you’ll travel through time as you learn of and enjoy the contributions of African Americans to music. Located inside the first Catholic church built just for the African Americans of the region, the Soul River Musical Journey will entertain and inform.

Once you’re done tapping your feet, head to Fatty’s Restaurant in downtown historic Garyville to grab a bite to eat before taking a tour of San Francisco Plantation, the river’s most colorful and ornate plantation.

End the day watching the sunset over Lake Ponchartrain while enjoying seafood at Frenier Landing Restaurant. Most Fridays you’ll catch a local band in the bar.

Day 3 – Saturday:  

Call United Front Transportation to arrange for a drop off and pick up in New Orleans… you’re headed to the Big Easy for the day! 

Walk Frenchman Street and poke your head into one of dozens of lounges where live music is played throughout the day. Stay for a song or all day!

A few steps away is the French Quarter where you can pick from some of the best New Orleans has to offer.

End your day at Preservation Hall to hear world famous jazz before heading back to our area for the night in your hotel.

Day 4 – Sunday: 

If you’re ready to hear the region’s weekly prayer, head to one of our historic churches and participate in one of several of our region’s services celebrating a diverse set of religions. 

After service, brunch at Ormond Plantation and dine on some of the finest cuisines in our region. Spend some time taking in the grounds and large oak trees in the front of the house as you walk off your meal. If you’re further upriver, Houmas House has several dining options. If you’re up for it, grab a drink at the Turtle Bar and ask for Kicking Mule Rum, it’s made from sugarcane grown only 10 miles away!

After lunch at Ormond Plantation, take a tour of Destrehan Plantation right up the road before heading to your next stop on our River Rhythm journey.

If you dined at Houmas House, hop across the river and tour Evergreen Plantation where you can participate in the reenactment of the traditional call and response songs of the enslaved people who lived on the plantation properties throughout our region.

Your final stop in Louisiana’s River Parishes is the Boutte Bingo Hall to hear local swamp pop. So try to keep up!
