Past Times Camp
June 20, 2022 @ 9:00 am - June 24, 2022 @ 3:00 pm
The River Road Historical Society is pleased to offer its second annual Past Times Summer Camp at Destrehan Plantation. Organized and operated by Destrehan Plantation staff membersand volunteers with expertise in numerous topics related to Louisiana history, Past Times Camp is available for children between the ages of 7-12.
Each day, campers will use the extensive grounds and buildings of Destrehan Plantation as the backdrop for their fun and learning. The camp will include indoor and outdoor activities as the children explore history from the earliest inhabitants to the Civil War. The camp includes presentations by staff members and volunteers along with numerous hands-on activities to make history come alive. Some of the activities include making and playing old-time toys and games, butter making, candle making, and rope making as our ancestors would have done in the 1700s and 1800s, and daily opportunities to read, write, and talk about Louisiana history.
The registration fee is $180 per camper. This includes all supplies needed to complete numerous hands-on activities and snacks provided on some days. The registration deadline is June 1, 2022.
You may download a Past Times Camp registration form and code of conduct here. (Registration forms are also available in the Destrehan Plantation Gift Shop.)
